Hiring a tree trimming contractor requires a permit in Washington

WASHINGTON – The City of Washington Street Department says if residents plan on hiring a contractor to trim or cut trees, they need to get a permit from the city beforehand.

Cleaning and removing limbs and debris are not the city’s responsibility, so homeowners must do it themselves or hire someone.

If you are setting limbs by the road for pick-up, they must be stacked neatly with cut ends facing the road.

Piles should be no taller than four feet, and limbs should be no bigger than four feet long.
