Police warn sending nudes is against the law, educate your teens

JASPER – Jasper Police report there has been an increase in the number of cases involving child sex abuse material among juveniles.

Sending nude photographs of, or to, anyone under the age of 18 is against the law, even if you send a photo of yourself to someone you know.

The Jasper Police Department says it takes each case it receives seriously and has recently charged three juveniles for crimes related to child sex abuse material and has several others under investigation.

Police say they have noticed juveniles are unaware of the offenses’ seriousness and urge parents to educate their kids about the laws and repercussions of these criminal acts.

Officials remind the public photos or messages sent via social media or on digital devices are typically recoverable no matter how much time has elapsed and are used as evidence during an investigation.
