Trooper detains suspended driver on drug charges

BEDFORD – An Indianapolis man was arrested Wednesday, March 13, after an Indiana State Trooper stopped him for a traffic violation on State Road 37 near Washboard Road.

At 6:32 p.m., Trooper Crane was on patrol when he noticed a vehicle and determined the driver was driving on a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Lawrence County.

The driver was 28-year-old Eric Kirby.

Trooper Crane initiated a traffic stop. While speaking to Kirby the trooper noticed a vape pen in Kirby’s pocket. The pen contained THC. The trooper also found a glass smoking device and a digital scale.

Kirby was detained on a warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or greater, and new charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
