Dr. Mike Tapper to join faculty at Indiana Wesleyan University

MARION— Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is excited to announce the appointment of the very experienced and esteemed Mike Tapper, Ph.D. to its School of Theology and Ministry faculty. Tapper will be serving as a Professor of Theology beginning in the fall of 2024. He brings with him a wealth of academic and ministry experience within the Wesleyan denomination, which will enrich the lives of IWU students and the entire IWU community.

With a strong background in theology education, Tapper is poised to make serious contributions to IWU’s mission of educating and empowering the next generation to achieve effective ministry. Since 2017, Tapper has served as the Chair of the School of Religion and Humanities and as a Professor of Religion at Southern Wesleyan University (SWU). Prior to his work at SWU, Tapper served as connection pastor at Moncton Wesleyan Church in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, and as an adjunct professor at Kingswood University, Sussex, New Brunswick. He’s also served at Crandall University in Moncton. Tapper’s past experience as a pastor at Pathway Wesleyan Church in Bangor, Maine, where he also worked as a program coordinator, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, offers a rich bank of experience to the IWU campus. Tapper’s proven track record demonstrates his credibility in stewarding IWU’s students with excellence.

Rev. Dr. Brian Bernius, Professor of Old Testament and Near East Studies and Acting Dean for IWU’s School of Theology and Ministry, says, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Tapper to the School of Theology and Ministry. He has a deep love for the church and a passion to train the next generation of pastors.”

Tapper received a B.A. in Religion from Kingswood University, an M.Div. from Tyndale Seminary, an M.A. in Theology from Saint Paul University, and his Ph.D. in Theology from Saint Paul University.  He is an author, speaker, community volunteer, and leader with numerous publications and professional presentations. He and his wife will be moving from SWU in South Carolina to Marion, Indiana, over the summer as he takes on this new role at IWU for the 2024-25 school year.
