Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department seeking person or person responsible in murder of James Stewart

BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is seeking assistance from the public with locating the person or persons responsible for the death of James Stewart.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24th, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the 1100 block of Lafayette Avenue reporting the discovery of a deceased male.

The deceased was identified as 42-year-old James D. Stewart, of Oolitic. 

Stewart was found deceased in his camper along Salt Creek. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, March 1. Stewart died from a gunshot wound. His death was ruled a homicide.

Lawrence County detectives, officers, command personnel, Sheriff Greg Day, and Chief Deputy Tony Seidle responded and began an investigation.

During the investigation, several items of evidentiary value were collected, and multiple search warrants were executed.

Investigators believe someone has a key piece of information, no matter how small, that would be imperative in solving this case and bringing closure to Stewart’s family.
