Man sentenced to county jail after violating terms of his probation

BEDFORD – On Thursday, February 28, a Bedford man was sentenced to the Lawrence County Jail by Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

James P. Kline III

On July 20, 2023, James P. Kline III, 43, pled guilty to domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement.

He was sentenced to supervised probation for 365 days in the Lawrence County Jail, with 247 days suspended. However, while on probation, Kline violated the terms of his probation.

As a result, Judge Plummer III revoked Kline’s suspended sentence and sentenced him to 247 days in the Lawrence County Jail.

Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings

Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings said, “The Defendant continued to consume alcohol while on probation in violation of his probation terms. The State of Indiana takes drinking and driving and domestic battery very seriously. It will prosecute misdemeanor cases to the fullest extent possible under the law of Indiana to keep the citizens of Lawrence County safe.”
