Secretary Diego Morales returns to his alma mater, visiting students at Silver Creek High School

SELLERSBURG – On Thursday, Secretary of State Diego Morales was welcomed back to his alma mater, Silver Creek High School.

Secretary Morales legally immigrated to Clark County with his family in high school.  He’s always taken immense pride in what he calls the ‘Best small town in America,’ Sellersburg, Indiana. Secretary Morales will always cherish and thank those who embraced the Morales family as they made the Hoosier state their new home.

Thursday, he talked to hundreds of students about the importance of voting, getting involved in the election process, and making intelligent financial decisions.  Secretary Morales answered students’ questions about the path to running for office, his time in the military, and what he gained from Silver Creek. He also talked to ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

“Being back at Silver Creek High School was such a special feeling. So much has changed, but the warm welcome is still the same. Years ago, I learned the meaning of Hoosier Hospitality when I moved to Sellersburg, Indiana.  It’s where my journey started, and I will forever be grateful to the students, teachers, and community.  I hope sharing my American Dream story today inspired high schoolers to work hard and to be proud of where they come from,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.

Secretary Morales also presented Honorary Secretary of State Awards to teachers and community members that impacted him.
