“Never should have been in our country, to begin with” – Senator Mike Braun on Jose Ibarra, arrested for the murder of a student in Georgia

WASHINGTON – Senator Mike Braun released the following statement on the arrest of Jose Ibarra for the murder of student Laken Riley in Georgia.

Senator Mike Braun

“The man arrested for the murder of Laken Riley should never have been in our country to begin with. He was released into America after crossing illegally under President Biden’s and Sec. Mayorkas’s catch-and-release abuse of the parole system, then released after an arrest in New York City due to their sanctuary city laws.

“Joe Biden has released over 1 million migrants under this parole policy. We have no idea who or where they are.

“Radical border policies and sanctuary city laws are a deadly threat to American citizens in every community.” – SENATOR MIKE BRAUN

BACKGROUND

On Sunday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that Ibarra crossed the Texas border illegally in September 2022 and was “paroled and released for further processing.”

Ibarra was previously arrested in New York City and released before an ICE detainer was issued to keep him in custody. Ibarra’s arrest in New York – a sanctuary city – did not trigger any review of his legal status in immigration court. New York’s sanctuary city policy means the city does not recognize ICE detainers.

President Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have paroled over 1 million migrants with no legal right to enter the country into the United States under their parole policy. Senator Braun previously noted after a visit to the border to talk with Border Patrol that Biden’s executive order termination of the Remain in Mexico program led to illegal immigrants simply being released into the interior with no supervision where, even if they do show up for a court date, the backlog is over two million cases long – making it effectively no-questions-asked entry to the U.S. for illegal migrants like Jose Ibarra.
