K-9 Scout finds meth, two arrested

BEDFORD – A Fort Wayne man was arrested after he was found with drugs on April 6, 2023.

A warrant was issued for 25-year-old Theodore Hayes on a charge of possession of meth.

According to Indiana State Trooper Chance Humphrey, on April 6, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., he was traveling north on Washington Avenue near 23rd Street when the black 2011 Ford Fusion in front of him crossed the center line. The car turned east onto 16th Street and Trooper Humphrey stopped the vehicle in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot.

The driver was 27-year-old Dakota Pemberton. His front-seat passenger was Hayes, and the rear-seat passenger was 21-year-old Sabrina Leggett.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Captain Andrew Phillips arrived at the scene.

Leggett was detained on two outstanding warrants for possession of meth and visiting a common nuisance.

Both Pemberton and Hayes were asked to exit the vehicle. Canine Scout alerted officers to drugs in the car.

Police found a plastic container that contained small orange pills in Hayes’ backpack. The pills later tested positive for meth and weighed approximately 0.25 grams.

Pemberton was issued a summons to appear in court on a driving charge while his driver’s license was suspended. Both he and Hayes were released from the scene.

The vehicle was left parked because neither man had a valid driver’s license.

A warrant was issued for Hayes on a charge of possession of meth.
