Report of a fight leads to two teens detained

BEDFORD – Two Bedford teens were detained after Bedford Police officers responded to a fight reported at 2:54 a.m. on Sunday in the area of 19th Street and Washington Avenue.

Responding, officers were alerted that the juveniles involved were running from the scene on 19th Street toward Brian Lane Way.

Captain Chase Hamilton said as he approached the 19th Street and Washington Avenue intersection, he noticed a group of five juveniles and stopped. A male juvenile looked at the officer, turned, and ran. Capt. Hamilton yelled at the boy to quit running, but he continued to flee, running through backyards.

Capt. Hamilton informed other officers of the teen’s location. Sgt. Faheem Bade located the male on 20th Street near Washington Avenue. The male was running across Washington Avenue toward the church. Sgt. Bade caught up with the teen and ordered him to get on the ground. The male was detained.

The group of juveniles told police there was a fight with a group of 10 other juveniles who had fled. 

A 14-year-old female was intoxicated. She and the 14-year-old male who ran were detained and transported to the Bedford Police Department. The female was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, and the male was charged with resisting arrest.

Juvenile probation was alerted, and both were released to their guardians or parents with promises to appear in juvenile court on February 28 at 9:00 a.m.
