Bloomington man killed in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning

BLOOMINGTON –  At approximately 8:06 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, Troopers from the Indiana State Police Bloomington Post and officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Garrison Chapel Road and West Gardner Road in Monroe County.

Upon arrival, Senior Trooper Richard Klun and assisting officers found a white 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck and a red/black 1996 GMC Sonoma pickup truck with extensive damage.

The red/black GMC Sonoma was off the roadway facing westbound, while the white Ford F150 remained in the roadway facing eastbound. According to Trooper Klun, the GMC Sonoma traveled eastbound on West Gardner Road and entered the T-intersection when the southbound white Ford F150 on South Garrison Chapel Road struck it.

The red/black GMC Sonoma driver was identified as John F. Skirvin, 66, of Bloomington. The driver of the white Ford F150 was identified as Joshua L. Scroggins, 38, of Bloomington. Skirvin appeared fatally injured when firefighters from the Bloomington Fire Protection District arrived at the scene.

Firefighters and EMS personnel from IU Health Bloomington attempted life-saving measures. There was no evidence of ejection by either driver.

Upon arrival, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office pronounced Skirvin dead at the scene.  Scroggins was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment and a blood draw as a result of the fatality.

Master Trooper John Yung, a certified crash reconstructionist for the Indiana State Police, arrived at the scene to assist Trooper Klun. The crash remains under investigation.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, the Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Bloomington EMS were among the responding and assisting agencies.
