When the officer increased his speed to catch the speeding driver, the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Kolby Mitchell of Columbus, turned off the vehicle’s headlights and continued to drive as he drove south on Indianapolis Road.

Officers caught up with Mitchell’s vehicle near 3rd and Lindsey Streets, where they performed a traffic stop with the assistance of Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputies.

Police say Mitchell was intoxicated. Officers also observed an open alcoholic beverage inside Mitchell’s vehicle.

Mitchell failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.137 percent.

He was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangerment, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, and criminal recklessness.
