January 31, 1952 – January 24, 2024

Franklin Scott Tyree, 71, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Monroe Hospital surrounded by family.

Scott was born in Bedford, Indiana, on January 31, 1952, to Kenneth Tyree and Catherine Louise (Finger) Tyree, and they preceded him in death. Scott was a lifelong resident of Lawrence and Monroe Counties and graduated in 1970 from University High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in basketball and baseball. He attended Indiana University, where he studied physical education and served on the athletic training staff during the 1972 football and basketball seasons. He later spent one season with the Boston Patriots as a staff trainer.

Scott had many careers, retiring in 2017, and devoted most of his time to the Elks Club, where he was a member for many years. He enjoyed the club’s fellowship and engagement while serving the community in various functions. From parades to shooting matches to fish frys to cooking in the restaurant and decorating for the holidays, the Elks Club was a great outlet for Scott’s passion.

His four siblings survive Scott. Anne Tyree Pierce of Scottsdale Arizona, Joe Tyree (Mary) of Chicago Illinois, Jim Tyree (Susan) of Chicago Illinois, and Bill Tyree (Kelly) of Scottsdale Arizona.

After a private remembrance, Scott will be buried in Cresthaven Cemetery in Lawrence County next to his parents.
