14-year-old throws a chunk of ice and is charged with battery

BEDFORD – A 14-year-old male was detained Tuesday afternoon on a battery charge after Bedford Police officers responded to an apartment on Ludlow Drive.

When officers arrived just after 4:00 p.m., they were told a male juvenile had thrown a chuck of ice at the caller’s son.

The boy’s mother told police her son had been dropped off by the bus around 3:20 p.m. She was standing on the front porch waiting for him. That is when another male grabbed a chunk of ice off the ground and threw it at her son, hitting him in the back and leaving a large red mark. The boy’s parents requested to file charges.

Police learned the boy who threw the ice lived in Hamilton Courts apartments.

The mother of the 14-year-old transported him to the Bedford Police Department for questioning. The boy admitted to picking up a small piece of ice and throwing it but said he didn’t mean to hit the other boy with the ice.

Lawrence County Juvenile Probation was alerted and the teen was issued a summons to appear in court on January 31, at 10:00 a.m. on a battery charge.
