BNL swimmers finish 7th in girls HHC meet

NEW ALBANY – Bedford North Lawrence finished seventh in the girls Hoosier Hills Conference meet during high school swimming action on Saturday.

The Stars totaled 81 points. Floyd Central won the team title with 379.

BNL’s top finishers included Cookie King (fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.60) and Ava Lipp (fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.13).

“Cookie and Ava had their usual strong showing and I expect them to do maximum damage at Jasper (in the sectional),” BNL coach Adam Young said. “We made the decision to train through this meet with our sights set on sectional. We have the youngest team overall in the conference, and so we had to take some licks. Everyone swam well and we saw a number of time drops.

“Our first-year swimmers really have amazed this season and I couldn’t be prouder of all of them. They got some valuable experience. I hope they see the team results today and decide, as a group, to really take the next big step forward and start challenging at the HHC meet.”

BNL will visit Seymour on Tuesday.
