On Friday, January 5, at 2:22 p.m., Bedford police were alerted to an accident with possible injuries on 16th Street.

When police arrived, they spoke to McDonald, who was driving a red 2017 Dodge Ram and was involved in the crash. McDonald told police he was on the phone and rear-ended the other vehicle.

Sgt. Bade detected the odor of alcohol, and McDonald’s speech was slurred; he had poor balance, and his eyes were bloodshot.

McDonald denied drinking. He submitted to several field sobriety tests and failed them. He consented to a blood draw at IU Bedford Hospital.

Police found several open bottles of Angry Orchard cider in McDonald’s vehicle. The vehicle was towed by Sone City Collision and McDonald was detained.
