The church was built around 1900 and is a registered Indiana Landmark. The church was built in addition to the building in the 1980s, and the original limestone walls are still intact, just on the interior in some parts of the church. The domed sanctuary features a grand pipe organ and beautiful stained glass. The church also boasts a large fellowship hall that can be rented out for events. You can call the church at 812-275-4497 for more details between the hours of 9 am-12 pm Monday through Friday.

In addition to Rev. Brown, several people make the church’s work possible. There are two office administrators, Dawn Manke and Mitzi Flynn, who assist with clerical duties, among other things. Choir Director Lillie Judge and Organist Mary Ruth Yates hold down the music. Linda Smith is the bookkeeper for the church, and custodian Steve Harrel keeps the building in order.

“We love our neighbor, as Jesus taught,” said Rev. Brown. All are welcome at the church, regardless of social stature. The church’s work is evident through work with the Bedford Men’s Warming Shelter and Life Food Pantry. First Christian Church also runs a coat bank in winter for those in need.

Church services are at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday; all are welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information visit First Christian Church’s website here.
