Jackson County man trapped in grain bin, saved by firefighters

Jackson County- On January 1, the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 5000 East block of County Road 800 North for a person trapped in a grain bin.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within 6 minutes of the call and found a male engulfed in corn up to his shoulders.

Firefighters from the Hamilton Township Fire Department, along with firefighters from multiple mutual departments including, Seymour Fire Department, Redding Township Fire Department, Vernon Township Fire Department, Jackson/Washington Township Fire Department, Driftwood Township Fire Department, Grassy Fork Township Fire Department, and Owen-Salt Creek Township Fire Department utilized specialized equipment for grain bin rescues to extricate the male.

Approximately 70 minutes after the initial call, the male was freed. He was treated on scene by Jackson County EMS and flown by PHI Indiana 7 to a trauma center for treatment.

The male was alert and talking on scene. Firefighters were assisted on the scene by Jackson County 911, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, Jackson County EMA, and Seymour City WPC.
