John Allen Thompson, 74, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born October 14, 1949, he was the son of Fred and Sarah (Gates) Thompson. He married Rita Sowder in Bloomington on September 17, 1988, and she survives.
John attended High School and College in Troy, Ohio. He was previously employed at G.E., Carlysle Company, and retired from Indiana University, Bloomington. He was raised in the Catholic faith.
Surviving John is his wife, Rita Thompson of Bloomington; children, Kevin (Mary) Prince of Solsberry, Kelly (Jeff) Parsley of Solsberry, and Kyle (Stacy) Prince; ten grandchildren: Courtney, Tanner, Hannah, Adam, Lindsay, Haley, Steven, Kyra, Havana, and Shelby; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Thompson of Ohio; a nephew, Jon David Thompson; and a niece, Shelly Thompson of Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Bartlettsville Christian Church with Bro. Larry Ritter is officiating. Burial will follow in the Bartlettsville Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bartlettsville Christian Church.
