Winter weather is approaching

INDIANA – The Indiana Department of Transportation is getting ahead of approaching winter weather by laying brine on roadways, ramps, overpasses, and bridges.

Brine is just one of the preventive tools INDOT uses to treat roads. It prevents snow and ice from sticking to the pavement.

Thursday, rain will mix with light snow at times. The best chance for light accumulation will be tonight into Friday morning.

Most of the accumulation will be west of US 31 from Kokomo to Seymour. Most areas will see less than a half inch, but isolated amounts of up to an inch are possible. There could be isolated slick spots on roads, but widespread travel hazards are unlikely.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says that 24% of weather-related accidents happen yearly due to slick road conditions.

With winter weather expected to greet us early on Friday, INDOT is not leaving anything to chance.

INDOT crews in each Sub District have been pre-treating for the expected winter weather.

“I would like to remind motorists to slow down, use extra caution, and give themselves plenty of time to reach their destination,” said Sheriff Greg Day.
