Obituary: Edith Jeannette Sorrells

April 3, 1940 – December 26, 2023

Edith Jeannette Sorrells, 83, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, surrounded by her family at Stonebridge Health Campus following a lengthy illness.

She married Dan E Sorrells in 1985, and he passed away in 2017.

Jeannette was born April 3, 1940, in Lawrence County to Louis and Juanita (Brown) Fiddler. One of nine children, she grew up in Dutchtown and attended Lincoln School before graduating from Bedford High School in 1958.

She retired from RCA in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1999 after 34 years of service as a production operator. During her RCA days, she worked weekends as a waitress at Hobby’s Restaurant in Bedford for nearly 15 years to make ends meet while raising her four children. Spending time with her family, going out with friends, traveling with her husband Dan, watching classic Hollywood films, and decorating her home for the holidays were all activities she enjoyed.

Surviving to cherish the memory of their beloved Mom and Granny are her four children, Julie Bailey (George), Paige Jones (David), Carol Sanders (Paul), and Reuben Murr (Leslie), all of Bedford; siblings Jack Fiddler, Brenda Yeary, Alma Lynn, Ed Fiddler, Pam Duncan, and Sharon Crane; grandchildren Padee Bailey, Annie Willis, Carrie Underwood (Eddie), Emily Neal, Mason Bailey, Aaron Jones (Hannah), Brandon Jones, Jeff Sanders, Mitchell Sanders, Taylor Sanders, Kendra Rowe (Justin), Isaac Murr (Vic), and Maddy Murr; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband Dan; siblings Charles Fiddler and Helen Godsey; and great-granddaughter Kyla Bailey preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, Indiana, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service time on Friday at the mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel, with Brother Mark Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Bryantsville Church of Christ Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, donations in Jeannette’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter.
