Travel safety tips for winter weather

BEDFORD – Street Commissioner David Flinn has released the following information to keep in mind as winter returns, and with it, more hazardous driving conditions.

You are recommended to stay home if possible during winter weather. If you have to travel, it’s suggested that you make time to leave early and drive slowly.

It’s better to arrive at your destination a bit late and in one piece than it is to risk an accident.

Review the tips below for specific ways to stay safe:

  • Always remove snow from your car
  • Brake slowly
  • Watch for black ice
  • Leave a lot of space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Be aware of flashing lights
  • Give the snowplows plenty of room
