When police arrived at 10:29 p.m., they heard loud crying inside the home. Two women answered the door, and one was hysterically crying. She told the police, “Zach hit me a bunch.”

Police say the woman had a medium size red contusion above her left eye.

The women told police Zach had been staying with them at the home on Knott Street for about a year. The injured woman had gone to the American Legion to visit with her mother, and when she returned, Zach began calling her names. Zach was then asked to leave. Zach began to pack his belongings but then damaged the woman’s property. When she told him to leave, Zach began punching her in the head. She yelled for him to stop and the other woman to call the police. Zach then walked out of the home, returned, and punched the woman three more times.

Mitchell Fire Department first responders arrived to assess the woman’s head injuries. She refused to be transported to an area hospital.

The woman did wish to pursue charges and signed a battery affidavit.

Police searched the surrounding area and could not find 24-year-old Robert Zachery Riley.

At 4:30 a.m., police located Riley in the 300 block of West Warren Street, and he was detained on a charge of domestic battery causing bodily injury.
