Two Stars take home titles in Bo Henry Classic

BNL’s Ethan Stancombe won the 165-pound weight class at Bloomington North on Saturday.

BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Jorj Filler and Ethan Stancombe won their respective weight classes in the Bo Henry Classic during high school wrestling action on Saturday.

Filler won the 126-pound class while Stancombe took top honors at 165. The Stars finished eighth in the team competition with 87 points, while Tell City took that title with 216.

Filler powered through with wins over Bloomington North’s Cas Crevello (a 7-2 decision) and Princeton’s Eli Powers (a pin in 38 seconds). He stopped Terre Haute North’s Cameron Baugh by an 8-3 decision in the championship match.

Stancombe opened with a 12-6 win over Owen Valley’s Quaid Hinshaw, then pinned Washington’s Boston Noble in 1:36 in the semifinal. In the final, he conquered Bloomington North’s Jeremiah Casillias by a 14-7 count.

BNL’s Wyatt Philpott finished as the runner-up at 113. He decked Washington’s Nathan Sponn 9-0 in the opener, then trapped Owen Valley’s Trayton Reuter in 3:22. In the final, Princeton’s Grant Slunder recorded a pin in 1:46.

The Stars will compete in the Holiday Classic at Mooresville on Friday.
