BNL swimmers sweep Jennings County

BNL’s Jayden Duke and the Stars swept meets at Jennings County on Tuesday night.

NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence swept meets from Jennings County during high school swimming action on Tuesday night.

The Stars won the girls meet 125-85, and posted a 155-42 victory in the boys meet.

In the girls meet, the Stars won eight events. Cookie King claimed two individual blue ribbons (29.44 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:11.03 in the 100 butterfly), and she was a member of two winning relays. She combined with Mia Manke, Ava Lipp and Emma Heinzman to take the 200 medley relay (2:15.12), then teamed with the same threesome to win the 400 free relay (4:30.03).

Other winners for BNL included Heinzman (1:08.58 in the 100 free), Lipp (1:08.72 in the 100 backstroke) and the 200 free relay unit of Amelia Rich, Jabrie Sullivan, Jane Bingham and Francesca Orozco (2:13.94). Orozco also win the diving.

In the boys meet, BNL won 11 events. Garrett Gabhart won two individual races (23.39 in the 50 free and 58.31 in the 100 back), and he also combined with Jayden Duke, Isaiah Conner and Oliver Brown to take the 200 medley relay (1:51.82). He then teamed with Duke, Brown and Isaiah Eicle to win the 400 free relay (3:46.41).

BNL’s Jane Bingham helped the Stars win the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Other winners for the Stars included Isaiah Eicle (2:00.13 in the 200 free and 5:47.40 in the 500 free), Conner (1:01.53 in the 100 butterfly), Brown (54.81 in the 100 free), Duke (1:14.44 in the 100 breaststroke), Talon Hooten (diving) and the 200 free relay of Carson Puckett, Porter Brown, Dustin Haltom and Isaiah Eicle (1:48.10).

“This meet wraps up our ‘getting to know you’ phase of the season, and now the training will pick up in intensity as we try and get in a position for a good taper to close the season,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “We’re still seeing a lot of improvements across the board.”

BNL will visit Columbus North on Saturday.
