Intoxicated woman arrested following a disturbance call

Kristy Fountain

MITCHELL– Police were called to Spring Haven Motel in Mitchell on December 6 to a report of an intoxicated person throwing furniture and causing a disturbance.

When police arrived on scene they found Kristy Fountain, 48, of Bedford sitting outside of the motel office in a chair. The caller had explained to dispatch initially that the suspect allegedly tried to break the window out of the office with a chair and was shouting and threatening to kill people.

Officers began asking her questions which initially did not receive a response. She mumbled incoherently when asked if she had been drinking, and that is when Sgt. Lonnie Johnson noticed a strong smell of alcohol on her breath. The officer noted Fountain’s speech was heavily slurred and her eyes appeared bloodshot.

Fountain was taken to IU Health Bedford Hospital to be cleared for acceptance at the detention center due to her level of intoxication. While at the hospital, she became disorderly and began to use foul language toward the staff and at one point attempted to barricade herself in the bathroom. She would not cooperate with hospital staff and had to be asked multiple times to calm down in the presence of other ER patients and small children, which she also refused to do.

She was booked into the Lawrence County detention center on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication, both class B misdemeanors.
