Gary Alvin Mitchell, 86, of Owensburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023.
Born August 18, 1937, he was the son of Paul and Bertha Pearl (Meadows) Mitchell. He married Alice Kay Smelser on September 24, 1960, and she survives. Gary graduated from Heltonville High School with the class of 1955 and was an IBEW electrician for 65 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving Gary is his wife of 63 years, Alice K. Smelser Mitchell; one daughter, Debra Kay (Michael) Crull of Owensburg; one son, Douglas Scott (Gina) Mitchell of Owensburg; four grandchildren, Caleb Crull, Makenzie Crull, Lauren Crull Bell and Sam Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Dallas and Bronson Bell; one brother, Evan Mitchell of Greenwood, Indiana; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ray, Loris and Wayne Mitchell; two sisters, Vivian Kern and Virginia Richards.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford. Burial will follow in Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be private and there will be no public calling.
Pallbearers will be Rick Fleetwood, Mark Springman, Doug Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, Michael Crull and Caleb Crull.
