Lawrence County Council votes to change meeting time

LAWRENCE CO. – The Lawrence County Council voted Tuesday night to change meeting times.

Currently, the council meets at 6:30 p.m.

They voted in a 5-1 vote to change the meeting time to 4:30 p.m.

Councilman Rick Butterfield voted against the proposed time change, saying he felt this prevented the public from attending the meetings.

Lawrence County President Jeff Lytonn reported that only four public members have attended meetings over the last year.

Councilwoman Janie Craig Chanault added the commissioners meet during the day at 9:30 a.m., and the public manages to attend those meetings.

Councilwoman Julie Hewston was not present.
