Concerned citizen calls police, man is detained on alcohol charges

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Wednesday, November 8th, after a report of a possibly intoxicated man sitting in front of Hoosier Pete’s gas station on Mitchell Road.

The caller was concerned the possibly intoxicated man would drive off in a silver SUV, potentially causing harm to him or others.

Jordan Reed

When Bedford Police officers arrived at 2:47 p.m., they found 30-year-old Jordan Reed in the front seat of a silver Jeep Patriot parked at the fuel pump. The front door of the Jeep was open.

While speaking with Reed, an officer detected the odor of alcohol. They asked Reed if he had been drinking, and he responded, “More than I should have operating a motor vehicle.”

Reed admitted to drinking Vodka before arriving at the gas station.

Reed submitted to a preliminary breath test. He had a blood-alcohol level of O.172 percent.

He then failed several field sobriety tests.

Bedford Police canine Zazu alerted officers to drugs in Reed’s vehicle. Police found several THC vaping cartridges.

Jackson’s Heavy Haul towed the Jeep.

Reed refused the certified chemical test by stating, “You ain’t shoving, you ain’t jamming
nothing, you ain’t plunging nothing into my arm……there is no needle going in my arm, bruh.”

Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline issued a warrant for the blood draw. Reed was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital. Reed became belligerent and was asked numerous times to lower his voice. He would not remain seated and had to be physically placed back in his seat.

After the blood draw, Reed was transported to jail, where he continued to be belligerent and uncooperative.

Reed is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI refusal, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.
