Vehicle recovered from Frankfort pond

CLINTON CO. – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an incident that occurred Sunday, November 19, 2023, and left one person in critical condition after a vehicle was driven into a pond in Frankfort.

Just before 5 p.m., local authorities responded to a call of a vehicle being driven into a pond at the Frankfort Lagoons and becoming submerged. 

Upon arrival, the driver, Maria Lopez, 49, of Frankfort, was removed from the vehicle by the Frankfort Fire Department. The passenger, Leonidas Siles, 53, of Frankfort, reached safety on his own.

Lopez was transported to IU Frankfort Hospital and then transferred to IU Arnett in Lafayette in critical condition.

The vehicle was recovered this morning by Conservation Officer divers. The incident is still under investigation.

Assisting on the scene were Frankfort Police Department officers and Farney’s Wrecker Service.
