Police detain two teens for smoking marijuana

BEDFORD – Two Bedford teens were issued summons to appear in court after Bedford Police officers were requested to the 1000 block of 25th Street on Monday, November 13, after a report at 11:43 p.m. about a red Ford truck parked near the intersection of 25th and J streets.

The caller reported the vehicle is there every night and stays for “hours’. The caller reported it looked like teens were smoking in the vehicle.

Police arrived on the scene and found a maroon 1999 Ford F150 parked on J Street, south of 25th Street. The officer approached the vehicle and knocked on the window. The driver 18-year-old Jeremy Myers rolled down the window and the officers said “a large amount of smoke poured from the vehicle”.

The smoke was from burnt marijuana, the officer noted in his report.

The passenger, a 17-year-old male, and Myers were asked to step out of the vehicle. The passenger lived at a home at the corner of 25th and J streets.

Officers then searched the vehicle and found a partially rolled marijuana cigarette in the ashtray of the truck. A glass and wooden smoking device was on the passenger floorboard. A vape and three vape cartridges were located in the vehicle’s center console. A baggie was found containing marijuana residue in the glove compartment.

Myers was issued a misdemeanor summons to appear in Lawrence  County Superior Court 2 on November 27 at 8:30 a.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Due to Myers being under the influence of marijuana, he was released to his mother, and his truck was secured and left parked at the home at the intersection of J and 25th streets.

The 17-year-old was released to his aunt and issued a summons to appear in juvenile court on November 29th at 9 a.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
