INDIANA – Crews have been hard at work this past year on the construction of Indiana’s newest interstate highway. Much of that work has been focused on connecting I-465 and the future I-69 on Indianapolis’s southwest side via a new interchange.
Earlier this summer, crews closed I-465 east and westbound lanes to continue construction of the many movements within the future interchange, including the northbound I-69 to westbound I-465 bridge. Once complete, traffic will use high-speed, high-capacity ramps to move between I-69 and I-465.
While much of the construction in the system interchange has been visible from I-465, it’s difficult to grasp the scope and complexity of the new interchange from ground level – especially if you are focused on traffic around you. This graphic will give you a good look at the many movements and improvements that will keep traffic flowing.
By Thanksgiving, much of the planned I-69 Finish Line construction for the year will be complete. Crews will continue to work during the winter months as weather permits, but overall construction and traffic should decrease noticeably.
The Mann Road ramp to eastbound I-465 opened last week. Additional work at the Mann and Thompson Road intersection will occur next year.
The southbound U.S. 31/East Street ramp to I-465 westbound will remain closed into 2024.
Crews expect to pave the S.R. 37 northbound ramp to Southport Road next week and anticipate its opening later this year.
The exit ramp from northbound S.R. 37 to Smith Valley Road is now open. The northbound on-ramp is expected to open on Friday.
Motorists should expect the traffic signal at S.R. 37 and Fairview Road to be removed on or after Thursday, November 16. A four-way flashing red light will be activated at the Fairview Road and Bluff Road intersection.
The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
