INDIANAPOLIS — When Indianapolis City-County Councillor-elect Nick Roberts is sworn in on January 1, he’ll become the youngest city councilperson of the largest 50 cities in the United States at just 23.
Nick defeated Republican Natalie Goodwin by a seven-point margin to be elected to the Indianapolis City-County Council on Election Day.
Nick will also be representing one of the most traditionally Republican areas of Marion County: Geist. Nick personally knocked on over 11,000 doors, holding thousands of conversations with voters in the 4th district.
“At just 23 years old, Nick Roberts proved once again that young people are fired up and ready to make a difference in the future of our state and country,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Mike Schmuhl. “Nick knocked on thousands of doors personally, holding meaningful conversations with residents of all ages and backgrounds throughout his district. On January 1, Nick’s hard work will make him the youngest elected councilor in any of America’s 50 largest cities.
“We’re proud of the history Nick made in Marion County, along with the history our candidates made throughout Indiana on Election Night. Hoosiers elected a record number of Black mayors, including the first three Black female mayors of Lawrence, Michigan City, and Evansville.”
Nick’s election was part of a history-breaking night for Democrats across Indiana. Nick will represent parts of the included city of Lawrence, which elected Deb Whitfield as its first Black mayor.
“I want to thank every single person who trusted me throughout the course of this campaign,” Councilor-elect Roberts said. “From the very start, I knew this would take a massive grassroots effort, and our campaign leaned into the challenge. Together, I know we can continue to move Indianapolis forward and keep this an incredible city for everyone — from our seniors to the next generation.
