CARROLL CO. – Yesterday morning, just after 8:00 a.m., Trooper Stinson was patrolling County Road 700 North, west of US 421. Trooper Stinson attempted to stop a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix for speeding. The driver, later identified as Romney Soper, 52, from West Lafayette, failed to stop and fled eastbound on County Road 700 north, passing US 421.
Trooper Stinson continued the pursuit on County Road 700 North to County Road 980 West. Soper attempted to turn southbound on County Road 980 West, ran off the road, and struck a stop sign. Soper then continued southbound on County Road 980 W before stopping at a residence and fleeing on foot. Soper was quickly located and taken into custody.

Romney Soper, 52, from West Lafayette
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle – Level 6 Felony
- Driving While Suspended – Prior – Class A Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving – Class A Misdemeanor
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash – Class B Misdemeanor
