MONROE CO. – The risk of getting and spreading one of these respiratory illnesses increases as we move inside to escape the winter chill, but there is one easy thing you can do now to limit the risk.
Think vaccines.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this is the first fall in U.S. history that vaccines are available for all three of these major respiratory viruses – COVID-19, Influenza, and RSV. Talking to your doctor and getting the recommended vaccines can help prevent you from getting seriously ill with one of these infections.
The vaccines are available by appointment at the Monroe County Public Health Clinic, which is located at 333 East Miller Drive in Bloomington. Please bring insurance information as insurance will be billed. There are no out-of-pocket costs for the vaccines, except for the RSV vaccine if not covered by insurance.
The CDC recommends an updated COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 6 months and older. The clinic has Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines available for those 6 months and older and Moderna Covid-19 vaccine for those 12 years and older.
Influenza (Flu): The flu vaccine is available and is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. A high-dose flu vaccine is also available for those 65 years and older.
Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) – The GSK Arexvy vaccine for RSV is available for those 60 and older.
The vaccine costs $285 if not covered by insurance. It is covered under Medicare Part D.
