18 state parks scheduled for deer management hunts

INDIANA – Select Indiana state parks will close for four days in the coming weeks to allow for controlled deer management hunts. The dates for the closings are Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28. 

State parks have managed the impacts of overbrowsing deer since 1993. 

The properties are:

  • Cave River Valley Natural Area
  • Chain O’Lakes State Park
  • Clifty Falls State Park
  • Fort Harrison State Park
  • Harmonie State Park
  • Indiana Dunes State Park
  • Lincoln State Park
  • O’Bannon Woods State Park
  • Ouabache State Park
  • Prophetstown State Park
  • Raccoon State Recreation Area
  • Shades State Park
  • Shakamak State Park
  • Spring Mill State Park
  • Tippecanoe River State Park
  • Turkey Run State Park
  • Versailles State Park
  • Whitewater Memorial State Park

Below is the information on the hunt at Spring Mill State Park and Cave River Naural Area.

The park will be closed to the general public starting from 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m., CST) on Sunday, November 12 before the first hunt period through 8 a.m. EST (7 a.m. CST) on Wednesday, November 15, and 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 26 before the second hunt period through 8 a.m. EST (7 a.m. CST) Wednesday, November 29th following the second hunt period.

ALL HUNTERS WILL NEED A PHOTO ID TO ENTER AND EXIT THE PROPERTY.

Hunt Hours: Hunting hours are ½ hour before sunrise until 4:00 p.m. EST (3:00p.m. CST) on the days of the hunt. Hunters may enter the field no earlier than 5:00 a.m.
