Two fire shots at a sports utility vehicle at Captain D’s in Seymour

SEYMOUR – On Wednesday, October 18, at approximately 11:13 p.m. Seymour Police officers responded to Hill Top Mobile Home Park at 115 South O’Brien Street after a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived in the area, they observed a white Jeep sport utility vehicle that had several bullet holes.

As patrol officers began the initial investigation, they learned that the incident occurred behind Captain D’s located at 831 East Tipton Street

Investigators were then called to the scene to conduct interviews and process the scene. It was determined that the suspect’s vehicle traveled East on Tipton Street from the restaurant after the shots were fired.

As the investigation continued, investigators learned that the vehicle was in the Jeffersonville, Indiana area. Sometime before 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, Jeffersonville Police officers located the vehicle along with two occupants inside.

The two suspects Robert Rummel and Alvin Huttsell were taken into custody.

The two men were transported to the Seymour Police Department and interviewed.

Rummel, 20, and Alvin Huttsell, 19, both of North Vernon, admitted to the crime. Huttsell admitted to being the shooter and Rummel admitted to driving the vehicle.

Huttsell was arrested for 48 counts of attempted murder, and Rummel was arrested for 48 counts of conspiracy to commit attempted murder and 48 counts of assisting a criminal.

Investigators were able to determine that at least eight shots were fired at the victim’s vehicle and there were six individuals in the vehicle when the shots were fired. Thus, one count of each offense for each victim in the vehicle for the eight shots that were fired.
