Columbus man arrested after fleeing from accident scene in Jasper

JASPER – A Columbus man was arrested on Saturday, October 21, after Jasper Police officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident at 2:48 p.m. at the intersection of Wernsing Road and US 231.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the driver of the involved vehicle, 37-year-old David R. Bozell, of Columbus, had left the accident scene on foot and fled into a nearby cornfield.

Law enforcement established a perimeter and, with the assistance of the department’s bloodhound, successfully located and apprehended Bozell.

Following an investigation, police discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Bozell’s possession.

Bozell was detained and transported to the Dubois County Security Center on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended driver’s license with a prior conviction, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say, thankfully, there were no reported injuries resulting from the vehicle accident.
