Update: ISP assists Indiana Department of Corrections in investigation into assault on a correctional officer

INDIANA – The identity of the correctional officer who was assaulted back on October 6, 2023, is being released as Correctional Officer Jacobi Jessie, 42, a two-year veteran with the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Officer Jessie was reportedly stabbed with a homemade device by James Phillips, 45, who is currently serving a sentence at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.  This is still an ongoing investigation.  A motive for the assault has not been determined at this time.  

Officer Jessie was treated and released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for his injuries.
