During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to evade police by driving through residential yards, but became stuck in the softened ground. The driver fled the vehicle on foot. Trooper Michael Thiron released his partner Yana to pursue the suspect. During the foot chase, the man turned to point a firearm at police dog Yana. Yana intercepted the firearm the suspect was holding and knocked both him and the weapon to the ground. The man rose and ran again.  Yana re-engaged and knocked him to the ground a second time, keeping him down until responding troopers took him into custody.

The suspect was transported to Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital for medical clearance and then taken to the Delaware County Jail without further incident.
