Bedford Altrusa meeting reviews activity and future plans

BEDFORD – The Bedford Altrusa Club met on October 9 at the Mixing Bowl.

Loretta Bailey took 20 magazines each to five nursing homes, Becky Bailey collected orders and money for the fall nut sales fundraiser, and Sammie Kay Polley and Tammy Harrell spoke about the current Caps-to-Benches project which will provide equipment for the new Bedford Parks Department pickle ball facility.

Altrusans who volunteered at the recent Lions Club Pancake Breakfast received tips for Altrusa and were very much appreciated by the Lions. Additional volunteers were Adalynn Bailey, granddaughter of Becky Bailey, and Kaylee Myers, daughter of Kelly Myers.

Altrusa Club members will be ringing the Salvation Army bell again this year on November 24 and 25 at the Bedford Walmart, both days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Christmas meal baskets will be assembled at the Southland Church Of Christ on Thursday, December 21, and recipient pickup will be from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. that day.

The annual Hauck House Christmas Party was eliminated per member vote.

Patty Kirkman explained about district awards the non-profit applies for to earn money, recognition and to qualify them as a distinguished club. Members voted to enter the Matthew 11:28 project with Mount Pleasant Christian Church for the community award. The club has no project to enter for the international award this year.

The club voted against having meals at meetings until further notice. The club has one more month to use the Mixing Bowl for meetings before Joyce Taylor moves to her new location.

Bill Barnes closed the meeting with the Altrusa benediction.
