BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents to beware of a phone scam.
The department has received several reports over the past few days of someone making phone calls and identifying themselves as a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department detective.
The caller then tells the resident they have an active arrest warrant. The caller then gives directions on how to make payment to prevent their arrest.
Sheriff Greg Day stresses the department does not practice this procedure and will not contact anyone by phone for payment.
If you receive a call the resident is asked to not comply with the caller’s demands and to report the incident immediately.
