Former Vincennes Police Chief pleads guilty to official misconduct

VINCENNES – Former Vincennes Police Chief Dustin “Dusty” Luking pleaded guilty Wednesday in a negotiated plea deal to a Level 6 felony charge of official misconduct.

Superior Court Judge Gara Lee accepted the plea agreement which included the dismissal of two counts of forgery and theft.

Luking was arrested after an FBI investigation in 2019 when he served as police chief.

According to court documents, Luking misappropriated $35,000 from the police evidence vault for personal use.

Following the investigation, Luking resigned as police chief.

Judge Lee ordered Luking to pay restitution and imported a 30-month suspended sentence to supervised probation. A later hearing will be held regarding to the exact amount of restitution Luking will have to pay.
