Woman backs into a vehicle and now faces OWI charges

BEDFORD – A Springville woman was arrested Saturday after a Bedford Police officer was called to Lowes parking lot after a report of a property damage accident.

When police arrived they spoke to a driver who reported that 58-year-old Mecca Jones, had backed into the side of his truck. The driver told police that he believed Jones was intoxicated.

Police found Jones leaning on the front of her car. Jones told police had purchased a grill and was going to get food at Long John Silvers.

Jones told police she had not been drinking but police say her speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy.

Jones failed several field sobriety tests and was detained. She was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw. Jones had a blood-alcohol content of 0.191 percent.

She was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI Endangerment, OWI with a blood-alcohol level of O.15 percent.
