Mitchell Community Schools update on Solar and Roof project

MITCHELL – On Monday, October 9, the Mitchell Community School board met for the hearing of the lease for the Solar and Roofing project that has been in the works for MCS for quite some time.

Dr. Brent Comer spoke of his excitement for the long-time-coming solar project. “I think of all the great things I’ve been able to be a part of in Mitchell in four or five years, this is right up there with one of the most exciting.”

The idea was initiated originally by Mitchell High School students.

The opportunity will provide MCS with much-needed new roofs for all the school buildings with 30-year leases, and the addition of solar panels.

Dr. Comer was excited about not only the environmental benefits of solar power, but also the financial benefits.

The investment will save the schools money which can then be put towards other uses, such as student programs, or new buses down the line.

The School Corporation is funding the lease for the project.

The hearing brought no public comment.
