Obituary: Ginger Shipman Janda

August 18, 1965 – September 26, 2023

A much-loved wife, mother, daughter, and friend, Ginger Shipman Janda, 58, of Sebastian Florida, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, with her loving family present.

For many years, she battled Parkinson’s Disease, and since early this year she has confronted and fought cancer with dignity and grace.

Ginger was born in Paoli, Indiana on August 18, 1965. She was the daughter of Rebecca Flick Grissom and the late Norman Grissom Vance and Sharon Shipman.

She is survived by her loving and supportive husband Jeff Janda, two children Shannon and Joseph Silverman, siblings Christopher Vance Shipman, Beth Grissom Jernigan, Michael Shipman, Chris P. Shipman, and several nieces and nephews.

Ginger attended Indiana University. She was a gifted writer and spent many years in Mitchell, Indiana writing for the Mitchell Tribune. She authored her own books as well. As a child, her passion was horse riding, and always surrounded herself with her beloved pets. Her sense of humor brought giggles and smiles to anyone she came in contact with, especially when she shared humorous stories about her dog Quincy.

To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring of 2024 in her home state of Indiana.

The family is asking those who wish to honor Ginger’s life to donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in her name.Â
