Lawrence County Jail requires new security cameras

BEDFORD – Tuesday evening, Sherriff Greg Day brought a request before the Lawrence County Council, explaining the need at the jail for new security cameras after a recent inspection.

The Lawrence County Council

An inspection of the jail recently yielded several changes that needed to be made either for the jail to be brought up to date, or to keep with standards.

Of the five changes, the most significant was the need to replace the old security cameras with new ones.

The Sherriff presented a preliminary estimate, given after consultation but before bids, of $616,535.27 to facilitate the installation of the new system in the future.

The Council asked Lawrence County Sherriff Day to proceed with the bid process, which must be completed before they can approve the amount.

The new security systems will:

  • Bring security measures up to date with 2023 jail standards
  • Improve video quality
  • Increase video duration
  • Address/minimalize camera blind spots
  • Add audio recording
  • Fix the Jail door interlock system
