Brownstown Police officer facing battery and false informing charges

BROWNSTOWN – A Brownstown police officer was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators arrested Brownstown Police Officer Michael Jeremy Huff, 38, on charges of battery and false informing, a class A and class B misdemeanor respectively.

Huff was then taken to the Jackson County Jail, and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office told investigators that they intend to file the aforementioned charges.

Officers with the Seymour Police Department responded to a reported battery in the 600 block of East 7th Street on Saturday, according to a press release.

When officers arrived, they found that the incident actually happened in the 700 block of Hustedt Street. Officials said the female victim told officers she had been beaten by Huff and was in pain. The case was then reviewed by investigators.

Brownstown Police Chief Tom Hanner placed Huff on administrative leave as soon as he learned about the incident. Huff has been an officer in Brownstown since February 28, 2022.
