Palestine Road to close for bridge deck replacement on Oct. 11

BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Commissioners Tuesday morning granted Highway Superintendent Brandi Webb to close Palestine Road on Wednesday, October 11 for a small structure replacement.

Crews will be replacing the deck of the steel deck.

“The road which is a dead end will be closed for just that day,” added Webb. “Crews will come in and replace the steel deck and once that is completed and all welded in place the road will be reopened. It should only take one day to complete. Crews will return the next day to finish up any other work needed.”

Webb and Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer meet with firefighters, sheriff’s department deputies, and ambulance crews to alert them of the road closure.

“We had a good meeting and there is a plan in place if those services are needed,” added Luchauer.

Highway crews will be going door-to-door alerting residents on Palestine Road of the closure and a sign will be erected this week announcing the closure, Web added.

Crews will begin working on the bridge at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, weather permitting.

The commissioners also voted to allow Webb to sign a contract with Premier Energy to provide 7,300 pounds of liquefied petroleum gas or LP gas for $1.699 a gallon.
