ISP and Newton County Sheriff’s Department work together during Traffic Blitz

NEWTON CO. – On Wednesday, September 20th, the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, along with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a traffic enforcement blitz in Newton County.

This is the second traffic blitz in the last four months in this county that was focused on commercial vehicle enforcement. The officers were primarily focused on trucks traveling on US 41 and on State Road 55 due to continued complaints of overweight trucks on those roadways.

The blitz resulted in 13 truck inspections, 5 traffic citations, and 14 warnings.  Of the 13 inspections conducted, there were 41 violations noted on those inspections. 77% of the trucks stopped (10 of the 13 weighed) were overweight in some form.

One driver was found driving with a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) status that had been revoked in Illinois.  One driver was placed out of service and six trucks were placed out of service for violations.

Sgt. Dale Turner stated, “As I said back in June, the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will continue to partner with our local law enforcement agencies to conduct these traffic blitzes in the future to keep Indiana roadways safe.  This isn’t the last blitz, so drivers of commercial motor vehicles in Indiana should take notice of these efforts.”
